In Nepal, melting glaciers poured down water, mud, trees, and rocks, instantly engulfing villages on both sides of the valley. Many people are dead or missing. It is shocking that such a natural disaster can occur without a single drop of rain. I watched the video, and watching the debris sweep through felt just like watching a tsunami. Tsunamis surge from the sea, while the floods in Nepal pour down from the mountains; the only difference is the direction, but the destructive power is nearly identical.
As Nepal is a mountainous country, rainwater plunges down all at once, instantly flooding the plains. Watching that scene, it feels as though everything man-made—roads, houses, bridges, cars, electricity, and communications—is being torn apart like paper in the face of nature. There are over 1,000 glacial lakes in the Himalayas, and dozens of them have already been classified as “dangerous.” The ground is already wet, and areas where landslides have occurred may collapse again, and changes in water flow could lead to new collapses
Scenes like the floods in Nepal demonstrate that no matter how much civilization humans build, nature is a greater force existing above it.
Nature offers humans warnings, comfort, and destruction. The emotion I feel is not fear, but the humility of existence.
네팔은 산위의 빙산이 녹아내려 물, 흙, 나무들, 돌을 쏟아내려 순식간에 계곡 양옆으로 형성된 마을을 덮쳤다. 많은 사람들이 사망, 실종상태. 비 한방울 오지 않고도 이런 천재지변을 당할수있다는게 충격이다.
영상을 봤는데 토사물이 쓸고지나가는게 흡사 쓰나미를 보고있는것 같았다
쓰나미는 바다에서 밀려오고 네팔홍수는 산에서 쏟아져 내려오고, 방향만 다를뿐 파괴력은 거의 동일하다
네팔은 산지국가라 비가오면 물이 한꺼번에 아래로 떨어져 평야를 순식간에 잠기게한다. 그 장면을 보고있으면 인간이 만든 모든것— 도로, 집, 다리, 차, 전기. 통신—- 이게 자연 앞에서는 종이처럼 찢겨나가는 느낌이다.
히말라야에는 1,000개 넘는 빙하호수가 있다. 그중 수십 개가 이미 “위험 수준”으로 분류되었다
지금 네팔은
- 지반이 이미 물에 젖어 있고
- 산사태가 일어난 곳은 다시 무너질 수 있고
- 물길이 바뀌어서 새로운 붕괴가 생길 수 있다.
네팔 홍수같은 장면은 인간이 아무리 문명을 쌓아도 자연은 그위에 존재하는 더 큰힘이라는걸 보여준다.
자연은 인간에게 경고도, 위로도, 파괴도 준다
내가 느끼는 감정은 두려움이 아니라 존재의 겸손이다.
